I was born in Woking, Surrey, and now live in Haslemere. I have always been interested in Community affairs, and worked for Surrey Police for 43 years leading partnership projects, crime reduction and designing out crime.
Living in Witley I became involved in trying to listen and improve the Community, and became a Councillor and Chairman for Witley Parish Council. In 2003 I was elected to Waverley Borough Council where I was portfolio-holder on the executive for Community safety, car parking and Young people.
I successfully introduced a youth council, youth shelters, and assisted with skateboard parks across Waverley. I helped set up 'A place to be' youth group, and chaired the setting up of the old fire station youth project. I organised a stronger and more robust Age Concern and CAB system, and other Community projects.
I volunteer in the community and have been President of Rotary. As your Councillor, I will support the vulnerable, particularly the elderly and young, and develop better communication and strategies between departments, agencies and the local community.
In 2019 I was elected to Haslemere Town Council and Waverley Borough Council. I was elected Mayor of Haslemere and due to covid I was asked to remain as Mayor for a second year. I have been very involved in making sure the neighbourhood plan was approved by Haslemere Town Council and passed to Waverley Borough Council for inclusion in planning LPP2. I am on most committees at Haslemere Town Council including planning, grants and amenities. At Waverley I chair the standards committee, vice chair of western planning, and sit on the O & S wellbeing committee, involved in the housing design tasking group, and the Service Level Agreement committee. I am the lead member for Haslemere.
I am passionate about providing social and affordable housing, and ensuring local views are listened to in local planning matters. I believe that the elderly, vulnerable, and young people need a voice and are being let down by Surrey County Council. If elected as Councillor, I will support the vulnerable, particularly the elderly and young, and help develop better communication and strategies.
