A local champion for Cranleigh
A council by-election has been called for the 7th October and local campaigner Philip Townsend has been selected as your Liberal Democrat candidate.
Philip, who is married to popular local Councillor Liz Townsend, is the owner of a small business and an active community volunteer. For many years he coached at Cranleigh Football and Rugby Clubs, and volunteered at the local food bank. He is currently lead volunteer of the Beryl Harvey Field Conservation Group in Cranleigh.
He is campaigning for investment in our roads and infrastructure, to tackle anti-social behaviour, and to protect services by getting good value for money from our council.
Voters here know this election is a two horse race between Philip and the Conservatives. Last time just a handful of votes separated the Liberal Democrat and Conservative candidates.
Many Conservative, Labour and Green voters will be lending their support to Philip this time to get a local champion who will fight Cranleighʼs corner and defend local services.
Philip said "I have supported Liz over the years in her many roles as a councillor and seeing her commitment and achievements has encouraged me to stand and to contribute myself as a Waverley Councillor.
“Cranleigh is such a special place to live and work and I am keen to ensure that we keep it that way with improved sporting and leisure facilities for all, sustainable planning, and by supporting our high street and working with local businesses.”
