Flooding at the Green

Flooding at the Green

There has been considerable wet weather in recent months and it has highlighted significant flooding in and around The Green in Ewhurst.

Cllr Michael Higgins has been working on improving the situation.

We've been pushing Waverley Council and the developers of Bostocks Close to install drainage at the entrance. Contractors came out w/c 11th March to double check there was no drainage installed at the entrance of Bostocks Close.

Cllr Higgins spoke with the Contractors  and  they were aware the grass bank was pumping out water, so they were looking at putting in additional drainage to deal with that.

Waverley's Enforcement team have subsequently been informed the drainage work should be finished by mid-April by the developer, but promises have been made previously without action. Therefore, Cllr Higgins will continue to chase this.

He also reported the muddy footpath that heads towards the Green to Surrey County Council. When the Enforcement team went to inspect, they noticed that the ditch near Bostocks is blocked, they are investigating that and hopefully they will look to clear it. Cllr Higgins reported the persistent water leak on The Green to Thames Water on 8th March and worked with the Parish Council to get this resolved after numerous reports by residents were ignored. Thames Water have now begun to repair this leak. It is hoped that once these works are carried out, it should ease the flooding issue residents in Ewhurst are currently facing.
