Apprenticeship Training: Lib Dems’ Clear Vision vs. Conservatives’ Short-Sighted Cuts

At a time when economic recovery and skills development should be a priority, the Conservative opposition’s proposal to slash funding for Waverley Training Services (WTS) is reckless and short-sighted.

WTS is a vital provider of apprenticeships, driving local employment, social mobility and business support. Cutting its funding now would stifle economic growth and crush the aspirations of young people seeking stable careers.

Essential for Economic Growth

For over forty years, Waverley Training Services has provided high-quality work-based learning, apprenticeships, functional skills, and employability training across Surrey. With an OFSTED rating of ‘Good’, WTS has been praised for its tailored support and employer-aligned learning.

Without continued investment, Waverley faces a skills shortage, rising unemployment, and economic stagnation. Major employers like the NHS, Enterprise Rent-A-Car and local councils rely on WTS to develop their workforce. Cutting funding now would harm not only WTS but the entire local economy.

Invest in the Future - Don’t Cut it

To ensure economic growth, quality of services, and the provision of skilled workers to local businesses, Waverley must remain committed to:

  • Boosting Economic Recovery – a skilled workforce supports business growth and resilience
  • Reducing Unemployment and Inequality – apprenticeships provide career pathways for disadvantaged young people.
  • Strengthening Local Businesses – companies rely on apprentices to develop talent.

Waverley Training Services has consistently delivered high-quality training and adapted to challenges. Do we invest in our local workforce, or allow Conservative cuts to derail our economic future? The answer is clear—funding WTS is an investment in Waverley’s prosperity and its residents’ aspirations. Cutting it now would be a grave mistake.
