Cllr Janet Crowe joins Liberal Democrats from Labour
Waverley Lib Dems are delighted that Janet Crowe, WBC and GTC Councillor for Farncombe & Catteshall has joined us. She brings an impressive and valuable breadth of experience in governance, strategic planning, policy development and delivery of local and national services.
First elected in 2023, she is a co-portfolio holder for Housing (delivery) and deeply committed to residents having affordable and healthy homes in safe communities, and with this the quick and easy access to relevant services.
Like so many people, Janet knows how tough it is being a carer, first for her children and more recently for her elderly father. “I’ve experienced how difficult it is to navigate the adult care system to get the help our parents need and deserve. Having heard from so many residents facing the same issues, I’m totally committed to doing everything possible to improve care services for our most vulnerable.”
She also knows what it’s like for parents of young children and the problems they face finding good, affordable childcare. “My parents helped me with childcare, and now I help out with my grandchildren, but we need to do everything possible to support working parents without their having to rely on the goodwill or proximity of their families.”
Janet’s professional life in the UK started after 10 years in Greece. Her work in crime prevention, rehabilitation of offenders and penal reform led to studying for an MSc in criminal justice. She is an experienced practitioner in restorative justice and a trained mediator. Cllr Ruth Thomson added “Cllr Crowe is another strong voice for our community. We are committed to doing whatever we can to make Godalming a supportive and safe home for everyone who lives here. Janet’s experience and empathy are greatly valued at the Council and appreciated by residents”.
