First Families Set to Move into New Affordable Homes in Chiddingfold

The first two of 26 new affordable homes in Chiddingfold have been completed, with families due to move into the new properties at Turners Mead imminently.

These are the first new council houses to be built in the village for many years – delivered by the Liberal Democrat-led administration at Waverley Borough Council.

The Turners Mead homes form part of a wider project to redevelop five council-owned brownfield sites across Chiddingfold, providing high-quality, energy-efficient and genuinely affordable housing for local people.

Cllr Dave Busby, Lib Dem councillor for Chiddingfold, recently visited the completed homes and said:

“It’s wonderful to see the first of these new homes ready for local families. We’ve been determined to provide housing that is high-quality, sustainable and truly affordable – and these homes deliver that. Looking around today, I’m incredibly impressed and am sure the families moving in will be very happy here.

“It’s horrible when residents tell me that their children, or their own young family, can no longer afford to stay in the village. These homes are a step towards improving that situation. They are the homes our village needs, without affecting the rural setting that makes Chiddingfold special.”

Alongside the new housing, the redevelopment work has brought investment into the wider community. As part of the works, the council secured “social value” funding from the contractors, which is already being used for local projects including bench refurbishments, new planting, and improvements to the outdoor play area at St Mary’s School.

There are also plans to enhance the green space at the centre of Hartsgrove, with a recent on-site consultation event inviting residents to share ideas for how the area could be better utilised.

The Chiddingfold scheme is part of the Liberal Democrat administration’s long-held priority to boost affordable housing supply across Waverley. Other projects are already underway, or planned, in Godalming, Farnham and Elstead.
