Lib Dem-led Waverley will keep parking FREE on Sundays next financial year, despite considerable pressures on council budgets. Waverley car parks will remain the only ones in Surrey to offer free Sunday parking in town centres for 2026/7.

Cllr Tony Fairclough, the Liberal Democrat portfolio holder for Regulatory Services (which includes Council car parks) recognises the value of this decision for businesses and residents alike.

"Free Sunday Parking will remain a cornerstone of Waverley’s parking strategy for the next financial year for three key reasons.

Firstly, for many working people, the weekend is often the only opportunity they have to visit our town centres. Free parking makes it a bit cheaper and hopefully gives them a reason to stay longer and enjoy our shops and hospitality venues.

Secondly, residents on lower incomes can take advantage of free Sunday parking.  It would be wrong for Waverley Council to remove this benefit from the most vulnerable members of our community.

Finally, it’s important that the Council continues to support the wonderful work our Town Councils and BIDs (Business Improvement Districts) are doing to attract people to our town centres. With many markets and other events happening on Sundays, free parking will continue to be integral to generating footfall in our towns."
