CAMPAIGN UPDATE: Liberal Democrats Secure Surrey County Council Commitment on Petworth Road Resurfacing

The Haslemere Herald’s front page this week brings welcome news for residents and road users on Petworth Road, confirming that the long-awaited resurfacing works are finally moving forward. After sustained pressure from Theresa Meredith-Hardy and Councillor John Robini and the wider team, Surrey County Council has committed to completing the first essential phase of the project — the drainage works.
Owen Jenkins of Surrey County Council has confirmed:
"A robust drainage solution has now been designed, and the works are scheduled to begin on 11 August 2025, running through to 24 September 2025. Once these drainage works are complete; resurfacing will be programmed as soon as possible thereafter."
Haslemere Liberal Democrats have consistently called for urgent action, highlighting the safety concerns and inconvenience caused by the deteriorating road surface. Thanks to our persistent engagement, Surrey County Council has now provided a clear timetable, giving the community reassurance that progress is underway.
We will continue to monitor the project closely to ensure the drainage and resurfacing works are completed on time and to the highest standard, delivering the improved road conditions Haslemere residents deserve.
We remain committed to holding Tory run Surrey County Council to account.
