Paul, who lives in Godalming, was brought up and raised here in Surrey in an army family, attending school in Guildford before going on to study at the University of Surrey. He stood for the Liberal Democrats here at the last general election, where he increased the party's vote share by over 28%, the largest increase in Lib Dem share of the vote of any seat in the country, and slashed the Conservatives majority to less than 9,000.

Paul has been at the forefront of Lib Dem success locally in recent years, which has seen the party make big gains at the expense of the Conservatives at the last Waverley Borough Council, Surrey County Council and Town Council elections.

As leader of Waverley Borough Council, and previously Deputy Leader, Paul has been working hard to protect local services from Conservative Government cuts and for real action to tackle the Climate Emergency, as well as leading the Council's efforts to help local residents through the pandemic.

Paul Follows, Liberal Democrat Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for South West Surrey, said:

"I'm delighted to be reselected as the Lib Dem Parliamentary Candidate for South West Surrey.

"When out and about talking to residents, it's clear local people have had enough of being taken for granted and failed by the Conservatives. People feel ignored by a Conservative party that is out of touch with their values and priorities, and an MP that seems, at best, disinterested in what's happening locally.

"In contrast, they can see the hard work the Lib Dems are doing on local councils to deliver for our communities. They know the Lib Dems not only listen to them, but actually deliver to make our area a better place to live.

"As the area's MP, I am determined to continue the work of the Lib Dems locally, and will make standing up for local people on the issues that matter to them most my absolute priority at Westminster."
