Mark Merryweather for Waverley Western Villages
I’m Mark Merryweather, a local Liberal Democrat who’s lived in Frensham with my family for over 20 years. I’m a former governor of St Mary’s infant school, Frensham, where my kids went to school, and a current governor at the Royal Surrey County Hospital. Since 2019, I’ve been honoured to serve on Farnham Town Council and Waverley Borough Council, prioritising the needs of our local community. A consistent champion for improving our infrastructure, I helped secure Farnham’s new GP practice. I work to preserve and enhance our cherished green spaces and stand firm against unsustainable developments that threaten our environment and way of life.
With decades of international business experience, I bring a focus on competence, responsibility and accountability to public service. As Waverley Borough Council’s finance portfolio holder, I’ve successfully navigated Council finances through the challenges of Covid and the cost-of-living crisis, and I’m proud that Waverley will be perhaps the strongest and most stable council joining the new Unitary.
Collaboration is at the heart of my approach and I am proud to have worked across political divides and with diverse stakeholders to deliver tangible benefits for our residents.
