Oli Leach for Haslemere
As we move to the new West Surrey Unitary Authority, we face the risk of Haslemere becoming a forgotten corner of a large bureaucracy. As a local business champion, with experience fighting for our high streets and the people who care about them, I want to keep our town’s needs front and centre.
After 20 years working in the Haslemere area, in 2018, I set up my own local wine bar and coffee shop. “Oliver’s” has become a hub, through which I’ve listened to your stories, hopes and concerns. I have seen the community at its best and at its most challenged. As a town councillor, I’ve been privileged to help residents resolve many of these issues, and support your aspirations for Haslemere.
Having run my business during the pandemic, then during the ongoing cost of living crisis, and as a long-standing volunteer with the Samaritans, I know how tough life can be. I’ve learnt how to support people in their darkest moments and the value of the services supporting our most vulnerable.
From looking after our town’s green spaces - a vital resource for lots of us - to demanding affordable homes with the necessary infrastructure, we need a plan for a sustainable future for Haslemere. I have dedicated my life to listening, taking action and working hard for our community. As a West Surrey Councillor, I would be the direct link from the heart of Haslemere to the centre of our new authority.
