Theresa Meredith-Hardy talks to Gerhard Wheeler CBE, former Brigadier and Commander in Afghanistan about the defence challenges Britain faces. With Russia waging war in Europe and the United States looking at the possibility of conflict with China, the evening will be a wide-ranging discussion. We will examine the UK’s Strategic Defence Review, the defence of Europe and the impact of new technologies like drones, cyber and AI.

We're thrilled to welcome Mike Brewer to Greenwich for an evening of political discussion and socialising.

Mike is Deputy Chief Executive and Chief Economist of the Resolution Foundation. He is also a Visiting Professor in Practice at the Department of Social Policy at the LSE. Between 2011 and 2020, he was a Professor of Economics at the University of Essex. He has also worked at the Institute for Fiscal Studies and HM Treasury.

Mike is interested in all aspects of inequality in income and wealth, including the role of the labour market and the tax and benefit system. He is the author of a book, What Do We Know And What Should We Do About Inequality?, published by SAGE in 2019.

The recent Reform win in Bromley Common & Holwood has made one thing clear: we need to be ready. That’s why we’re bringing people together for an open, energised strategy session to plan our response ahead of the Bromley Council elections in May 2026.

We’re thrilled to be joined (via Zoom) by Mike Martin, MP for Tunbridge Wells, whose area saw a dramatic Reform surge in May 2025—when they took control of Kent County Council with 57 seats. Mike will share insights from the front line and help us think through what works, what doesn’t, and what Bromley needs now.
